Topic: Yeah but...
Scripture: James 1:22

Disciple is a word that we use to refer to Jesus’ followers. It doesn’t just refer to his closest group of followers though. In his last conversation with his followers he told them to go and make all people disciples. We are supposed to become disciples of Jesus, who help others follow Jesus too.
That word, Disciple, also means to be a student. So the picture Jesus draws for us is each of us being his student, and at the same time teaching others to be students of Jesus too. Many of us have the desire to be a student of Jesus. We know he has a lot to teach us. There aren’t many of us though that feel like we have what it takes to teach others about him. Jesus would disagree though. He wants us to come alongside people in life in simple ways to share simple truths about him. If we do that, we can become followers of Jesus who lead others to follow him too.

Next day delivery has changed how most of us function. We click the BUY NOW button and expect to be able to almost simultaneously hear the package hit our front porch.  None of us have much patience to wait for anything. If it doesn’t get delivered over the course of a couple days, we think something is seriously wrong.
When Jesus was born, he surprised almost everyone, because Israel had been waiting for so incredibly long, that most people had stopped waiting altogether. He showed up and instantly started fulfilling prophecies from hundreds of years earlier. Still some people wanted to call customer service because he wasn’t what they expected. Other’s saw what the rest were missing. He was exactly what the prophets had told them to be waiting for. He was exactly what we all needed.

Topic: What Are You Waiting For?
Scripture: Luke 2:25-38

Christmas Eve is a day of anticipation and longing, but what are we all waiting for? Most children are eager for the arrival of gifts under the tree on Christmas morning, while adults may long to be with family or to be with those that are no longer with us. What are you waiting for? Before Jesus’ birth, the world longed for a Savior and unexpectedly, He was delivered. And little has changed because our souls still yearn for something more. They long for our Savior – Jesus.
