God is no stranger to rescue. He rescued Jacob and his family from famine and drought when he used the pain of Joseph to provide for them in Egypt. After that miraculous rescue they stayed as aliens in a foreign land for over 400 years. In that time, their small family grew to the size of a nation and became oppressed and enslaved. They once again needed rescue and God sent them a deliverer. His rescue was even more miraculous. But just because you have been freed does not make you free. They still needed to discover the land, the purpose, and the identity God had for them.
We are his people, raised up for the adventure we were made for. It is for freedom He has set us free (Gal. 5:1). Are we living in the land, the purpose, and the identity God has spoken over us or are we still living in the wilderness? We are no longer slaves but free children of God, blessed with the dreams from our Father. God’s church should be no stranger to rescue. He calls each of us to step boldly into the wild.

Before Jesus’ death, his teachings, miracles, and conversations were powerful enough that many were willing to crown him king of the Israel. His conversations after his death left his followers calling him the one true God. Jesus’ conversations with his followers show us he is the ultimate authority on all of existence. We were more desperately in need of being rescued than we ever realized, and Jesus let his followers know that His rescue mission brought hope for us all.

But they also revealed his commitment to fulfill his mission of redeeming all people. Finally, his words on the cross let us know that he succeeded in that mission.

Week 10: Who Was Jesus Talking To?Speaker: Randy AdamsOriginally Aired on 4/10/22

We’ve all experienced an accidental conversation. You hear someone and think they are talking to you, but really they are speaking with a friend on their Bluetooth headphones. Or maybe you are in a crowded place, and someone shouts your name, but they are talking to someone else with the same name. Sometimes even in your own home someone can be talking for a long time before you even realize they are talking to you.
In the gospel accounts of Jesus’ life, Jesus spends time talking with religious leaders, blue collar workers, friends, soldiers, the sick, the possessed and more. How does who he is talking to change what he is talking about? Where might we find ourselves in those conversations? Maybe Jesus has been talking to us more than we even realize.
