God blessed the prayers of Nehemiah and he was able to return to Jerusalem to begin rebuilding what had been destroyed. As the work began, Nehemiah became much more aware of the problems that were going on around him. As he continued to pray, God continued to change his heart more and more to respond to the injustices he saw others experiencing.

At the start of the book of Nehemiah it says that when he heard how bad things were back in Jerusalem that he wept, fasted, and prayed. Those prayers weren’t your everyday prayers. He was crying out to God for the needs of his people. He was a part of the royal court of the Persian empire. His prayers weren’t for himself, they were for God’s people and God’s city. How do we pray when God breaks our heart for the needs of others? What should those prayers lead us to do?
