The road trip is all about the journey, but the best part is reaching the destination. When it comes to Jesus, we didn’t reach the destination, he reached out to us. He’s arrived at our destination. He came for us. The start of the New Testament tells the history of the life of Jesus and the start of another road trip. After his life on earth, Jesus gave his disciples a new mission that was full of road trips to come.

The original Route 66 connected small towns all across the country. Small towns don’t make small people. They produce tight knit communities with strong values. At the end of the Old Testament, there is a collection of books called minor prophets. These small books are not small on truth. They foretell of Jesus’ arrival, warn of the consequences of our choices, and also provide wise direction for life’s journey.

Ever thought the street signs were wrong? That you could see a better way, knew a better way, or you thought there was a shortcut? In the Old Testament, the Israelites kept deciding they could just take their own directions, and it led them on some awful detours. It cost them way more than time too. God sent prophets to try and help them get back on track, but nobody likes hearing how far they have gotten lost.

Every road trip has to start somewhere. Scriptures beginning is our beginning as well. The first several books were all written by Moses and tell the story of the beginning of all things. Moses continues the story to tell about the long journey of God’s people. When you go on any trip you want to start with the destination in mind. What journey does the Bible take us on? It leads us to our savior and our creator.
